Cut the bacon in half, cook it well in a frying pan, and blot the excess oil with a paper towel.

Generously spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Place the first slice, buttered side down, in a heated frying pan. No oil is needed in the pan.

Layer the cheese and bacon, then place the second slice of bread on top with the buttered side facing up (the buttered side should be on the outside of the sandwich).

Flip the sandwich several times, pressing down, until it is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Cut into an X shape and serve with ketchup if desired.
