Yakitori is best when cooked on the grill grid over charcoal. If you cook using an ordinary BBQ, the bamboo skewers need to be protected as they burn easily. Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 1 kgChicken
  2. Thick Spring Onions
  3. Salt & Pepper
  4. Sauce Ingredients>
  5. 1/2 cupSoy Sauce
  6. 1/2 cupMirin
  7. 2 tablespoonsSugar
  8. 1 cloveGarlic *sliced

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the bamboo skewers in a shallow dish of cold water for at least half an hour, then drain.

  2. 2

    Cut Chicken into bit size pieces and cut thick Spring Onion into 3cm. Thread the Chicken and Spring Onion onto skewers.

  3. 3

    Combine the Tare Sauce Ingredients in a saucepan and boil until the sauce thickens.

  4. 4

    Heat a barbecue plate or frypan. Season half of the skewers with Salt and Pepper, and cook the skewers until cooked through.

  5. 5

    Cook rest of the skewers, brushing them with the Sauce occasionally until cooked though.
