Ingredients

Serves 4 / Makes 12 skewers
  1. 1.1 lbsbeef steak (about 500g), for grilling
  2. 1onion
  3. 1/2yellow bell pepper
  4. 2asparagus spears
  5. 12cherry tomatoes
  6. Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  7. as neededVegetable oil,
  8. a
  9. 3 tablespoonsshio koji (about 45 ml)
  10. 1 tablespoonhoney (about 15 ml)
  11. 1 tablespoonsoy sauce (about 15 ml)
  12. 2/3 teaspoongrated garlic (about 3 ml)

Steps

    Recommended ingredient: beef chuck steak for grilling.

    Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces. In a bowl, mix together the ingredients for A, add the beef, and massage to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

    Cut the onion into wedges about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) thick. Remove the stem and seeds from the bell pepper and cut into 3/4 inch (2 cm) pieces.

    Trim the tough ends and scales from the asparagus, then cut into 5–6 pieces each. Remove the stems from the cherry tomatoes.

    Thread the marinated beef, onion, bell pepper, asparagus, and cherry tomatoes onto bamboo skewers in a colorful pattern to make 12 skewers. Sprinkle all over with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

    Heat vegetable oil on an electric griddle. Grill the skewers on both sides until cooked through.
