Rinse the steak briefly and pat dry with paper towels. Rub with salt and black pepper to marinate slightly.

When the pan starts to smoke, add the steak. Once in the pan, do not move it. Adjust the heat to medium.

When the color change on the side of the steak reaches about halfway up, flip it over.

After flipping, cook for about 3 more minutes (press the steak with a spatula while cooking). Add butter and spoon it over the steak. Use the spatula to feel the firmness of the steak. When the butter in the pan darkens, the steak is about medium rare and can be removed from the pan.

Let it rest on a rack for 3-5 minutes. Add your favorite side dishes, and the pan-seared ribeye steak is ready!
