Ingredients

  • 1/2medium onion (about 2/3 cup, finely chopped)
  • 1/2carrot (about 1/3 cup, finely chopped)
  • 9 ozground beef and pork mix (250g)
  • 2 tbspbreadcrumbs (20g)
  • 1large egg
  • 1/2 tspsalt (2g)
  • Pincheach of black pepper and nutmeg
  • About 8 Aiko tomatoes (or other small cherry tomatoes)
  • 2 piecesprocessed cheese (such as Babybel or similar), quartered
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Batter: water, 1 egg, and all-purpose flour, as needed
  • Breadcrumbs, for coating
  • Equal parts ketchup and Worcestershire sauce (for dipping)
  • Assorted vegetables of your choice, for garnish

Steps

    Sauté the onion and carrot until soft, then let cool. In a separate bowl, mix water, 1 egg, and all-purpose flour to make the batter.

    In a large bowl, combine all the A ingredients and mix well until the mixture becomes sticky.

  3. 3

    Slice each Aiko tomato in half horizontally. Place a quarter piece of cheese between the halves, then skewer with a bamboo stick.

    Lightly coat the tomato-cheese skewers with flour, then wrap with the meat mixture. Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

  5. 5

    Lightly dust the chilled meatballs with flour, dip in the batter, then coat with breadcrumbs.

  6. 6

    Fry in oil at 340–355°F (170–180°C) for about 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown all over.

  7. 7

    Arrange your favorite vegetables on a plate, stand the skewers in a glass, and serve!
