Asian Pears also known as apple pears or Japanese pears. They’re round instead of “pear-shaped”.
This is the first time canning the Asian pears, they’re a bit different from regular pears to can as they’re not as acidic. #GlobalApron 2024

Ingredients

  1. 11-13 poundsAsian pears
  2. 1large bottle of lemon juice
  3. 4 cups(approximately) granulated sugar
  4. Light syrup: 2 cups sugar per 1 quart of water
  5. Heavy syrup: 3 cups sugar per 1 quart of water

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Peel and cut Asian pears in half, removing cores and blemishes.

  2. 2

Slice directly into prepared sugar syrup.

  3. 3

Cook pears 5–6 minutes, to heat through.

  4. 4

Add lemon juice (1 Tbsp. per pint, 2 Tbsp. per quart) to each jar.

  5. 5

Pack hot pears into hot jars.
Cover with syrup, leaving 1/2” headspace.

  6. 6

Remove air bubbles. Wipe the rim clean and place on your seal and ring. Place the jar in the canner. Proceed to fill all jars.

  7. 7

Place the jar in the warm canner. Proceed to fill all jars placing them in the canner. When all the jars are filled, bring the water in the canner to a boil. When a boil is reached that is when you’ll start your timing.

  8. 8

Process for the length of time for your altitude. I used 20 minutes.

  9. 9

After your time is over, turn the heat off, remove the lid and allow the canner to rest for about 5 minutes. Then bring your jars up out of the water. Allow them to rest for another 5 minutes. Then remove the jars and place them a few inches apart on a thick towel to cool completely. Leave them alone for about 12 hours. When they are cooled remove the metal bands, check the seals, label the jars and store them away!

I love to bake sweet stuff, with a bit of savory tasty cooking thrown into the mix. Just good ol’ southern cuisine. Most of my recipes were handed down from my Great & Grand Grannies. If they didn’t grow it or raise it, it wasn’t eaten. My hubby and I have alot of food allergies so it gets challenging sometimes to make things that we both can eat. Neither of us can eat shellfish, which is sad, considering where we live, cuz it’s everywhere! Y’all won’t find any shellfish /saltwater fish recipes here. Some fresh water fishes, maybe. Hope y’all enjoy my recipes!
