Ingredients

40 minutes
6 servings
  1. 85 gramsunsalted butter plus extra for tin
  2. 125 gramsplain chocolate
  3. 140 gramsgolden caster sugar
  4. 100 gramssoft brown sugar
  5. 1 tablespoongolden syrup
  6. 2egg
  7. 1 teaspooncoffee essence
  8. 100 gramsplain flour
  9. 2 tablespoonscocoa powder plus extra for dusting tin
  10. 1/2 teaspoonbaking powder

Steps

40 minutes
  1. 1

    Melt butter, both types of sugar, chocolate and syrup in thick bottomed pan on a low heat. Leave to cool a bit.

  2. 2

    Preheat oven to 180C or 160C for fan assisted ovens

  3. 3

    Whisk egg and essence together.

  4. 4

    Mix eggs in together with chocolate mixture

  5. 5

    Sieve flour, cocoa and baking powder together

  6. 6

    Add to chocolate and egg mixture folding in carefully

  7. 7

    Butter egg-shaped tin and dust with some cocoa to avoid the brownies sticking

  8. 8

    Pour mixture evenly between the shapped tin. Bake for 20-25 minutes

  9. 9

    Leave them to cool a bit before taking out of the tin

step number one... when you say melt butter, sugars, golden syrup... what should this look like? How long should it be melting?
