This is called "Saba no Misoni" in Japanese and is one of the most common home cooked meals in Japan! Try this delicious fish dish :-) Note: Do not turn the mackerel when boiling to avoid destroying the shape.

This is called "Saba no Misoni" in Japanese and is one of the most common home cooked meals in Japan! Try this delicious fish dish :-) Note: Do not turn the mackerel when boiling to avoid destroying the shape.

Remove the head and innards from the mackerels and wash with water. Dry with kitchen paper. Make a cross cut on both sides.

Put all the # ingredients into a pot. Once it boils, put in the mackerel with lid on. Boil for a while on a medium to high heat. Occasionally shake the pot to ensure the mackerels are covered with sauce.

While boiling the mackerel, make the miso sauce. Mix all * ingredients well.

When the sauce is nearly gone, and the mackerels are well cooked, pour the miso sauce on the mackerels and shake the pot to cover everything. Once it comes to a boil again, it's done!

You can garnish with Japanese leeks or green onions.
