This is a lovely flat, Italian Bread typically seasoned with Herbs and Olive Oil. Whatever the fact, it is supposed to be Oily. Focaccia is therefore made with Olive Oil in particular because it gives it a distinct flavour as well and a lot more of healthy goals. It's light, airy and perfect for many a parties, potlucks, holidays and even family gatherings. The use of Olive oil is key with this amazing Bread. After it's risen, fingertips are pressed into the dough from top to bottom giving the Bread it's signature dimples and allowing the oil to sit in those dents made. It's absolutely a bliss.
I have used fresh Rosemary and Basil as the main topping along with, Tomatoes, Red Onions and Black Kalamata Olives.
It's best enjoyed on it's own but there are many a great options to serve this. The toppings are also varied according to one's own choice. Garlic, Red Chilli flakes, Olives, Rosemary, Basil, Italian Seasoning to name a few are most favourites. The options are endless. Thinly sliced Onions and Bell Peppers of all colours are also used.
Crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside, it's awesome. There's nothing more satisfying than a freshly baked Bread at home.

Happy Baking with Zeen!

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

Add yeast to lukewarm water at first with sugar. Stir it and allow it to prove. Please keep in mind that Yeast is of good quality and fresh. Check the expiry date carefully. And if the yeast mix gets spoilt or if doesn't prove, then discard it and make a new one. It becomes frothy after it is proved with a distinct smell.

  2. 2

To this mixture, add all-purpose flour or maida along with olive oil and salt. Mix well and bring it onto the kitchen counter for kneading it. Knead it well for about 5 minutes and then keep it in a greased bowl with a cover or a cling. Apply a little olive oil to it before covering it up with a cling film.

  3. 3

Set it aside in a warm place to rise double it's volume. Take this flour out into a well greased square baking pan. Spread it equally from all the sides. Do not roll it. Applying pressure with fingers, make dents in it. Now add your favourite toppings.

  4. 4

Brush with more of olive oil. Let it prove again for the second time for about an hour. After done, it is all set for baking. Bake in a preheated oven on 200° for 20-25 minutes. Brush with more of olive oil on top. I also made other variations with just herbs and onions too.

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
