Bento Chocolate Cake

For small celebrations like Valentine’s Day, I love making bento-sized cakes in different flavors for my partner and I. They are no doubt the perfect little treat to share without going overboard. This one is a chocolate bento cake, filled with chocolate-flavoured Finowhip (a powdered frosting that’s whipped with cold water or milk into a light, creamy filling). #CookpadApron2026
Bento Chocolate Cake

Preheat oven to 180 C. Line two 5” round cake tins and set aside

Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, soda and salt
- 3
In a separate mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar and vanilla using an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Beat in the egg just until combined

Add dry ingredients, buttermilk, and hot water to the creamy mixture. Beat on low speed just until combined and smooth

Pour batter into prepared tins. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean

Let cake cool for 5 minutes in the pan then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely

Frost with whipping cream, buttercream, cream cheese, or enjoy as is! I used whipped cream on mine. I doubled the recipe to make two bento cakes, decorated one with red icing and a topper abd the other with a topper and food grade gold leaf in my preferred designs
