Make the syrup: Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over heat. Once it comes to a boil, add the lemon juice.

Take the frozen kunafa pastry and pulse it in a food processor. Add melted butter and powdered sugar, then mix until the butter is fully incorporated into the kunafa.

Grease a baking pan with butter. Add half of the kunafa mixture and press it down firmly. Spread the nut filling (mixed with 2 tablespoons of syrup to help it stick) evenly over the base. Add the remaining kunafa on top and press down well.

Drizzle 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the top. Bake on the middle rack of the oven at 350°F (180°C) until the bottom is golden. Then turn on the broiler to brown the top until golden.

Remove from the oven and pour cold syrup over the hot kunafa.
