Crunchy and Spongy Chaula Bara

#CA2025
Made Odishas famous Chaula Bara, a popular street food snack of Western Odisha. Crispy from outside yet soft and fluffy from inside.
It goes well with Tamarind Water or Green chutney. I preferred to make mint chutney.
Made Chaula Bara simply by soaking Rice and Dal, then blended to form a batter. Added ingredients like coriander, green chilli, ginger, salt and Carom seeds.
Lastly, fried in oil and they got ready to enjoy with Mint Chutney. Must try this simple lip smacking receipe!

Steps
- 1
First, take all ingredients together to make Chaula Bara. To begin with, wash dal and rice by rinsing throughly with water.
- 2
Soak separately both the ingredients in hot water for 4 to 5 hours. After 4 to 5 hours, dal and rice seems fluffy. Drain water from dal and rice.
- 3
Transfer it to blender jar. Grind to form a thick batter. If a batter seems too thick, add just a little amount of water. Note - The batter should not be too thick nor too watery.
- 4
Transfer it to mixing bowl. Stir it well for 2 to 3 minutes so that it will get light and fluffy. Add all other ingredients like ginger, green chilli, coriander leaves, Carom seeds and Salt.
- 5
Mix well all the ingredients. Heat oil in a wok. When the the oil gets heated, take small portion of prepared dal and rice batter to drop in hot oil.
- 6
Deep fry on low medium heat until golden brown. Transfer it to plate. Chaula Bara is ready.
- 7
Enjoy spongy and spicy Chaula Bara.
- 8
Take ingredients to make mint chutney. Put roughly chopped onions, tomato, green chilli, garlic cloves and raw mango in a blender jar. Blend it coarsely.
- 9
Add chopped mint leaves and blend to form a Chutney. Transfer it to bowl. Lastly, add salt and give it a good mix.
- 10
Chutney is ready to serve. Enjoy with hot chaula bara!

Serves best with spicy green chutney.
