Ingredients

30 minutes
4 servings
  1. 3 cupsall-purpose flour (about 375 grams)
  2. 1egg, at room temperature
  3. 3 tablespoonssoftened butter
  4. Pinchsalt
  5. 1 packetinstant yeast or 1 tablespoon
  6. 1 tablespoonsugar
  7. 1 cupwater (about 240 ml)
  8. Basil or oregano (optional, add with the flour)
  9. 1beaten egg, for brushing the top
  10. 3 tablespoonsnigella seeds
  11. Filling
  12. Sliced mixed cheese, cooked ground beef, or fresh chopped vegetables

Steps

    Combine the flour with basil or oregano (if using), salt, and sugar in a bowl. Stir, then add the yeast.

  2. 2

    Add the egg, then the softened butter.

  3. 3

    Gradually add the water, mixing until you get a soft dough.

  4. 4

    Let the dough rise until it doubles in size.

  5. 5

    Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle, place the filling on one half, then fold the dough over to close.

    Place the filled dough on a nonstick baking sheet, or sprinkle a little semolina underneath to prevent sticking.

  7. 7

    Brush the tops with beaten egg, sprinkle with nigella seeds, and bake at 350°F (180°C). After baking, broil for 5 minutes until golden.
