Homemade tomato paste 🍅
I’m making tomato paste from scratch as we are not fond of the paste where we live. Fresh is the best 😃 is my motto to begin with…. Let’s begin…
Steps
- 1
After washing the tomatoes get a pan large enough that all tomatoes fit without overlapping.
- 2
Preheat over to 400f or 200c. Bake uncovered for 1 1/2 hours or until they look as in the photo below. Turn off oven and remain in the oven until cool or room temperature. They are ready to remove skins.
- 3
Next add to a strainer and with a wooden spatula push the tomatoes through the strainer until all the meat of the tomatoes are all the way through the strainer, back into the pan they were baked in.
- 4
Preheat oven to 375f or 190c and bake for approximately 45mins to an hour depending on your oven. Be sure to scrape the sides every so often and keep the sauce evenly spread out to bake evenly. Bake to your desired thickness and store in the refrigerator in your preferred airtight container for up to 8 weeks or in the freezer for up to 9-12 months. Enjoy the beautiful fresh flavor of your paste ♥️ make your day great 🤩
Tips
Self life will be extended if you add a little bit of olive oil to your paste.
