Murukku (Chakli) चकली

Unlike the western world where the festive season is at the end of the year, in India the festivies start a couple of months prior to December. Festivals like Christmas or Diwali in the Indian culture revolves around a lot of home made sweets and savories made specially for this season
I decided to make some murukkus because K is a huge fan of savouries and enjoys munching on snacks after a day at work. Making these murukkus ( a savoury snack popular in India) is my first attempt. I must thank K for helping me make these murukkus

Steps

  1. 1

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Then add the butter and slowly add some water to form a stiff dough

  2. 2

Next find the husband (haha... jk!) well I did! and get him to make some spirals with the murukku maker. Make the spirals on a damp cloth, or paper towels and transfer it your hands before dropping it in the hot oil

  3. 3

It might take a few trys to retain the shape of the circle when you drop into the oil but just remember when you eat murukkus, you break them, so if the shape gets messed up its ok. And oh! you have to be careful when you drop it into the oil

  4. 4

Your murukku maker comes with 1 and 3 star attachments. I made them with both

  5. 5

Fry the murukkus until done and then drain on paper towels

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
