Indari Appam

Normally among thrissur catholics ,as we enter the 25th day of Holy Week we prepare this special Appam known by different names as Pesaha Appam/Indari Appam.
This recipe is from my mother- in- law. And the credit goes to her. :)

Normally among thrissur catholics ,as we enter the 25th day of Holy Week we prepare this special Appam known by different names as Pesaha Appam/Indari Appam.

Soak urad dal for 3-4 hrs and grind to a smooth paste by adding water. To this add grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds and just grind for few seconds more. In a bowl add two cups of roasted rice flour,grinded urad dal mixture, turmeric powder, fried coconut pieces,fried chopped curry leaves and salt. Mix well using enough water (around 2-3 cups). The consistency of the final batter should be the same as of dosa batter. Keep aside for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, pour this into a flat steel plate greased with coconut oil. Steam this for 10 minutes in an idli cooker or appachembu. Once it is done allow it to cool down before removing from the appachembu.

Indari Appam is ready to serve.
