If you ever visit my parents from any part of the world there is one restaurant they will take you to in Kuwait - its Mais Alghanim. Its a top arabic and lebanese restaurant in the country and has the yummiest food ever. I have been thinking about us travelling to visit my folks in a few months and I am quite sure we will go there for a meal or two
I absolutely love their menu and my parents always order a generous amount of everything LOL ... We always get something to drink and I always have gone for their cocktail (which is a mix of fruit juice), and they bring out the hummus, mutabel, tabouleh, arayes, kabbab and shish taouks and all sorts of other goodness ... By the time we are done eating, there is still food left over but then its time for DESSERT!
My dad will always say that there is definitely space for dessert (even though he doesn't eat any when we get some), so when we decide what to get I always get Umm Ali ... I think my family likes it too
I have begun the countdown to when we head home, so in honor of that, I made some umm ali ... I stunned myself and the hubby with this ... it was just delish, was extremely beautiful to look at, and we ate the ramekin clean LOL
The measurements I used are for two medium sized ramekins. Its pretty easy to increase quantities - eye-ball the measurement and you should be fine - it will still taste amazing

Steps

  1. 1

I let the store bought puff pastry sheet to thaw and cut into small squares. Place the squares on a baking sheet and bake until its crisped and golden brown. It puffed up and was crunchy in about 15 mins. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool down

  2. 2

In a saucepan, bring the milk, cream and sugar to a gentle boil

  3. 3

In another little bowl, mix together the raisins, almonds and coconut

  4. 4

    It's now time to assemble!

  5. 5

Line the bottom of the ramekins with the puff pastry squares - this filled up 1/4 of the ramekin. Next put the nuts mixture over the squares

  6. 6

Finally pour the milk till the brim, so its fully covered

  7. 7

Place the ramekins back in the oven for about 15mins. The cream will ooze out of the ramekins a bit

  8. 8

    Serve warm

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
