Steps

  1. 1

    gather ingredients

  2. 2

open the jar of pickles.. :)

  3. 3

use a collandar to drain all the pickle juice out of the jar into a large bowl. do not! get rid of the juice\brine.. u need that..

  4. 4

slice each pickle in half lengthwise and put back into the jar.

  5. 5

mix the sugar and the kool aid in with brine\pickle juice. stir until dissolved.

  6. 6

pour brine mix back into jar of pickles to the top and make sure all pickles are covered.

  7. 7

place jar into refridgerator and chill for about a week to a week and a half.

  8. 8

pickles with now be colored and flavored to whatever you chose.

  9. 9

    enjoy!

  10. 10

tip: the standard flavors of koolickles are strawberry and cherry. but u can pick whatever u like..

  11. 11

this is an easy and fun recipe for kids.. just make sure u help them in the cutting portion of this recipe...

  12. 12

As someone has reviewed they said no sugar if u like sour stuff... without the sugar its really really tart. The sugar gives it a good balance of sweet and sour. If u do like stuff more sour u could cut down the sugar but have u had kool aid without sugar? Nasty and bitter.

  13. 13

koolickles: history: Popular in small, predominantly African-American Mississippi Delta towns, Koolickes are simply dill pickles that have been allowed to soak in a strong mix of Kool-Aid and brine. Koolickles combine two flavors well; sour and sweet. Their popularity is soaring; the New York Times wrote a great article about these pickles, and they even received a nod from Alton Brown on his show, "Feasting on Asphalt".
