Years ago I made Chinese chicken salad, with this dressing, for my best friend Danny. He flipped for it. For years he wouldn't let me share the recipe with anyone, calling it our "secret sauce," with big dreams of bottling & selling it and getting rich. LOL. Another friend I served it to actually licked her plate when she was done eating the salad! And I've caught a few people slamming shots of this dressing. I kid you not -- it's that good!

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cupcanola oil
  2. 3/4 cupseasoned rice vinegar
  3. 2 tbsptoasted sesame oil
  4. 1/2 cupdark soy sauce
  5. 1/2 cupsugar
  6. 1 tbspdark brown sugar
  7. 2 tbspchicken bouillon powder, dissolved in 1/3 cup very hot water
  8. 1/3 cuppineapple juice
  9. 1/2 tsp5-spice powder

    NOTE: You must use TOASTED Sesame Oil and SEASONED Rice Vinegar to get the proper flavor. If you're unable to find them in your market, they are available online. I've tried making it with plain sesame oil and rice vinegar, and it's just not that good.

    Whisk all ingredients together well, or mix in a blender. I prefer using a blender because the oil stays blended with the other ingredients longer. Refrigerate in a covered bottle or jar. Shake well before using.

My 5 siblings and I were raised in the 1950s and 60s midwest by a major foodie dad who was a great cook. We all learned to cook at a young age. I love to cook for my 2 daughters, 7 grandkids, 8 great-grandkids, and extended family. My 4 year old great-grandson makes my day when he says "Nan sure is a good cooker!". :-). I'm trying to get all my favorite recipes saved here so my family and friends all have easy access to them even after I'm gone. My Cookpad collection is their inheritance, so I try to add my comments and memories to each recipe; that way they'll remember me with a smile when they use the recipes years from now. Recently I've called on my grandkids (all adults and avid cooks) to send me their own favorite recipes, with their prep photos, so we can collect everyone's favorites together in one place.
