Ingredients

  • 3 tbspsugar
  • 1-1 1/2 teaspoonssalt (I use 1 teaspoon sea salt since I'm not a salt lover)
  • 3 cupall purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tbspbaking powder (1 1/2 teaspoons plus 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 bottlebeer (12 ounces) (I use Miller, but you can use another kind)
  • Topping
  • 1/4 cupmelted butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1/4 tspgranulated garlic powder
  • 1/2 tspbasil or oregano, or another spice of your choice (I usually use oregano or 1/2 oregano & 1/2 basil, or I don't use any at all) *optional*

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350°.

  2. 2

    In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and herbs (if using).

  3. 3

    Add the beer and stir until blended.

  4. 4

    Put in a lightly greased bread loaf pan (5 X 9 or 4 1/2 by 8 1/2).

  5. 5

    Bake for 1 hour.

  6. 6

    Combine the butter and garlic (if using).

  7. 7

    Remove the bread from the oven.

  8. 8

    Pour the butter mixture over the top.

  9. 9

    Allow the bread to rest in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before removing.

  10. 10

    The bread is can be eaten immediately, but it's a little easier to slice once it has cooled down.

Some of my favorite things are family, friends, my pets, cooking, baking, football (Badger & Packer), Brewer baseball, college basketball, car racing, thrift stores, volunteering, and rummage sales. I have a 9 year old rescue dog, and 7 birds ( 6 are rescue) and they range in age from 1 year to over 19 years old. I volunteer for a dog rescue and a shelter, as well as other festivals and organizations.
