Ingredients

50 mins
  1. 250 gramswholemeal flour
  2. 200 gramsplain flour
  3. 1 tspbicarbonate of soda
  4. 1egg
  5. 350 mlbuttermilk
  6. 1 tbsphoney (sugar works too)
  7. Enough flour for kneading bread and the baking sheet

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 200℃/400℉

  2. 2

    Mix all dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl

  3. 3

    Mix wet ingredients in another bowl, slowly add the wet to the dry (you may not need all the liquid it should form a soft dough not a wet sticky dough)

  4. 4

    On a floured surface gently knead dough, the place on a lightly floured baking sheet and cut a cross shape on to the top

  5. 5

    In a preheated oven at 200℃/400℉. Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes until when u tap on the bottom of the bread it sounds hollow

  6. 6

    Place on a cooling rack and cover with a clean tea towel when cooled enjoy with a generous helping of butter and a cup of tea
