Ingredients

  • 2 cupsugar
  • 3/4 cupbutter
  • 1 cupbuttermilk
  • 1 tspbaking soda
  • 2 tbsplight corn syrup
  • 2 tbspvanilla extract (I use extra)
  • 1 cupchopped pecans

Steps

  1. 1

    In a heavy 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar, butter, buttermilk, baking soda, and corn syrup over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture reaches the hard ball stage (268 degrees on a candy thermometer).

  3. 3

    Remove from heat.

  4. 4

    Stir in vanilla and pecans.

  5. 5

    Place pan in a large bowl of ice and beat with a wooden spoon just until mixture begins to thicken.

  6. 6

    Quickly spread in an 8 inch square pan.

  7. 7

    Allow to cool thoroughly before cutting into squares.

Some of my favorite things are family, friends, my pets, cooking, baking, football (Badger & Packer), Brewer baseball, college basketball, car racing, thrift stores, volunteering, and rummage sales. I have a 9 year old rescue dog, and 7 birds ( 6 are rescue) and they range in age from 1 year to over 19 years old. I volunteer for a dog rescue and a shelter, as well as other festivals and organizations.
