2 boxBerries (blackberries were the tradition here)
2 cupSugar
Batter
1/2 cupSugar
1/2 cupShortening
1 cupFlour
2 tspBaking powder
1/2 cupMilk

Place sugar over berries and let stand while mixing batter.

Butter baking pan. Spread butter over the bottom of the pan.

Place berries over the batter, spreading as even as possible.
4

Bake 35 min in a 375*F oven.
