Ingredients

  1. 1 cupSemisweet or Dark Chocolate, Coarsely Chopped
  2. 1/2 cupCubed Butter
  3. 1/2 cupSugar
  4. 4Eggs
  5. 1 1/2 tspVanilla Extract
  6. 1/2 cupCocoa Powder
  7. 33/100 cupDark or Light Rum
  8. 1 smallSaucepan
  9. 1Mixing Bowl
  10. Chocolate Rum Glaze
  11. 4 oz2/3 Dark Chocolate, Coarsely Chopped
  12. 3 tbspButter
  13. 1 tbspRum

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven 375°F

  2. 2

    Grease 8” baking pan and set aside

  3. 3

    In small saucepan over low heat, melt together chocolate and butter, stirring until smooth.

  4. 4

    Remove from heat, transfer to mixing bowl, and mix in sugar.

  5. 5

    Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing until smooth between each addition.

  6. 6

    Stir in vanilla extract, cocoa powder and rum until well mixed.

  7. 7

    Pour batter in pan and bake for 25-30 minutes

  8. 8

    Insert a toothpick into the center. The toothpick should be relatively clean with few crumbs.

  9. 9

    CHOCOLATE RUM GLAZE

  10. 10

    In small saucepan melt together chocolate and butter, mixing until smooth.

  11. 11

    Stir in the rum, spread evenly over cooled cake.

This is going to sound like a lame question...but instead of whole chocolate chopped, can I substitute with chips, instead? I can't imagine it would make a difference, but maybe there is a slight difference in the process used to produce choc. chips (?). TIA :)
