Fry bacon in a 2 quart saucepan until crisp.

Remove, drain, and set aside.

Add onions to pan and saute'.

Stir in sauerkraut, beer, sugar, caraway seeds, and pepper.

Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for 1 hour.

Add carrots and simmer uncovered for an additional 20 minutes, until carrots are tender.

Spoon into a serving bowl and garnish with bacon pieces.
