Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 8 tbspunsalted butter, melted
  2. 1 cuppanko bread crumbs
  3. 5 cupmilk
  4. 1/2 cupall-purpose flour
  5. 1/2 tspground black pepper
  6. 2 tspblackened seasoning
  7. 1 tspchili powder
  8. 2 cupsharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  9. 2 cupJack cheese, shredded
  10. 2 cupfontina cheese, grated
  11. 1 lbelbow macaroni
  12. 1 lbkielbasa or andouille thinly sliced

Steps

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. 2

    In a medium bowl, combine bread crumbs and 2 tablespoons of the melted butter. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Cook macaroni 3 minutes less than manufacturer's directions in a large pot. Drain and rinse under cold water.

  4. 4

    In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the sausage.

  5. 5

    Put remaining 6 tablespoons butter in the pot used to cook pasta over medium heat. When butter bubbles, add flour, pepper, and seasoning.

  6. 6

    Slowly pour milk into mixture while whisking. Continue to cook until mixture becomes thick.

  7. 7

    Remove from heat and add 3/4 of each of the cheeses. Then add macaroni and sausage. Mix well.

  8. 8

    Transfer to a casserole then top with remaining cheese and breadcrumbs.

  9. 9

    Bake until browned on top, about 30 minutes.
