Jack fruit is known for it's fiber content. It is also rich in potassium, magnesium and iron which supports heart and blood pressure. The seeds found in it helps in curing constipation.
Kathal ki sabji is a good choice for people who don't eat non veg. It can also be used in a party for serving guests. Some people deep fry kathal but I make it without frying. some time i make with rice four also.

Ingredients

  • For kofta:-
  • 1/2 kgJack fruit
  • 1 tspGinger, Garlic paste
  • 2 tbspRoasted chana powder
  • 1 tspSalt
  • Green chilli 2 no
  • 1 tspRed chilli powder
  • 2 tbspOnion chopped
  • 1 tbspLemon juice
  • Oil for frying
  • For gravy :-
  • 2 tbspOnion paste
  • 1 tbspGinger, Garlic paste
  • 2 tspTurmeric powder
  • Red chilli powder 2 tsp or to taste
  • 1 tbspCoriander powder
  • 1 cupTomato puree
  • 1 tbspCurd
  • Clove2 no
  • to tasteSalt
  • 1/2 stickCinnamon
  • 1 tspGreen cardamom powder
  • 1 tspCumin seeds
  • 1 tspKasoori methi powder
  • 2 tbspOil
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash and cut the jack fruit then boil it. Mash the potato.
    Make a fine paste with boiled jack fruit, ginger, garlic paste, onion, salt, green chilli, lemon juice and red chilli powder, mix chana powder and make the kofta with the mixture.

    Heat the oil fry the koftas till golden and keep aside.
    Now add more oil in this pan add cumin seeds, clove and cinnamon as they crackle. Add ginger, garlic paste stir 2 minutes.
    Add onion paste, fry the onion paste till it becomes nice golden colour, add turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and cook for 2 minute.

    Add tomato puree, curd and cook for 5 minute more or until the oil separates from the spices.
    Add sugar, ksoori methi powder and 3 glass of water, cover and cook the gravy for 10 minutes. Open the lid add fried kofta and again cook for 5 minutes, then turn off the gas.
    garnish with coriander leaves, serve hot with chapati or steamed rice.
