Steps
- 1
check if the gelatine is the amount needed for 0,5 liters. This may vary from brand to brand.
- 2
get a bowl and fill it with cold water. One by one put the gelatine leaves in the cold water to soak. They should soak for at least 5 min. Again this step may vary with brand.
- 3
cut all orange in half. Easiest is cutting them top(where the green stem is) to bottom.
- 4
with a spoon, scoop out the oranges flesh. Be carfull for the skin of the orange halves may not be pierced. Scoop out the flesh until the white on the inside of the skin. This action gets easier after a few orange halves.
- 5
you can throw out the orange flesh or keep it to make a smoothie or something. For this recipe it is easier and more appealing in the end if you use pre made orange juice.
- 6
put the orange juice in a small pan and heat it. Do not bring it to a boil, but just heat it.
- 7
take the pan of the fire. fish the gelatine leaves out of the bowl and sqeeze the water out of it above the bowl. then put the sqeezed gelatine leaves in the warm orange juice and stir. Make sure you stir well, because else you will get lumps.
- 8
after adding the gelatine let the orange juice cool down for a minute on the stove or counter top. Not for longer because else it will start to set.
- 9
add the vodka to the mixture and stir again.
- 10
put the orange halves in a tray or muffin pan. Make sure they stand up and can not shake, wobble or move.
- 11
pour the mixture in the orange halves.
- 12
put the orange halves in the fridge for at least 6 hours. I normally leave them in over night.
- 13
take the orange halves out and put them round side up on a cutting board. Cut each halve in 3 pieces with a very sharp straight knive.
- 14
serve on a plate and do not forget to warn your guests that there is alcohol in there. Enjoy :)
- 15
you can use this recipe and make lots of variations. Use vanille or lemon infused vodka or use lemonade instead of orange juice. I also have made mojito jellos in limes, lemon drop jellos in lemons, strawberry vodka jellos in limes looking like watermelons and tequila sunrise jellos with layers. You can also use cups or molds instead of citrus fruits. As long as you take the right amount of gelatin only your imagination is the limit!
