Steps

First cook the onion for 3-4 minutes in a frying pan over medium heat. Then add the rice, turning the grains to coat them in the oil.

Then add the boiling water (or stock) and the salt. Stir once only and cover with a lid. Turn the heat on the lowest setting and cook for 15 minutes (40 minutes for brown rice).

Once ready, remove the pan from the heat and cover with a cloth for 5-10 minutes.
