Ingredients

  1. 1/2 tspMustard seeds
  2. 1/4 tspMethi seeds
  3. Curry leaves few
  4. 1 cupmadras onions
  5. 1/2 cupgarlic
  6. 1/2 tspTurmeric
  7. 2 tspChilli powder
  8. 1 gooseberry sizedTamarind
  9. 1 tspgrated jaggery
  10. 3 tbspsesame oil
  11. Salt as required

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak tamarind in warm water for 15 mins and extract tamarind juice. Keep aside.

  2. 2

    Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and methi seeds, curry leaves and garlic and onions. Saute it well.

  3. 3

    Add all the masalas.

  4. 4

    Now add the tamarind extract and simmer for 15 mins till oil oozes out.

  5. 5

    If gravy does not thicken and raw taste of tamarind has gone, you can even add rice flour slurry/coconut paste to the gravy.
