In a pot over medium heat, sauté the onion in the oil. Add salt, turmeric, and black pepper, then add the grated tomatoes and tomato paste. Pour in 1 1/2 cups of water (about 360 ml) and bring to a boil.

Add the rice to the pot and cook for about 15 minutes, until the water is absorbed.

Add the potatoes.

Cover the pot and cook on low heat.

Shape the kofta into balls, thread them onto wooden skewers, and grill them in the oven.

Serve the rice with the kofta alongside any salad or yogurt.
