1. Since this is your first time, I would go to store and buy some pie crust - either Betty Crocker or Pillsbury. Or you can also buy the pie shell in the freezer section - that would be even easier.
2. For 8 inch shell:
5 cups of peeled slice apples - I like Cortlands but you probably can't get them there so you can used Galas, Ida Reds or a sweet apple
3 tbsp of flour
1/4 tsp of nutmeg
1/2 tsp of cinnamon - at least & I season to taste so you can add a bit more
dash of salt
3/4 cup sugar
3. Stir it all up and then I put in microwave for about 5 min. to start them cooking so the crust doesn't brown too much waiting for apples to soften.
4. Put the apple mixture in the crust and spread around.
5. Crumb crust:
1/2 cup butter - softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
6. I use a pastry "chopper" to blend in the butter but you could use a fork if you don't have one. It should be crumbly when finished.
