Ingredients

60 minutes
  1. 2.2 lbsbeef, cut into large cubes (about 1 kg)
  2. Small pieces of pita bread
  3. 2 cupsEgyptian rice (about 400 grams)
  4. 1large onion
  5. 10garlic cloves
  6. 1 cupvinegar (about 240 ml)
  7. 2 tablespoonstomato paste
  8. Juice of 2 tomatoes

    Boil the beef until tender.

  2. 2

    Cut the bread into small pieces, drizzle with a little oil, and toast in the oven for 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the rice as usual. For a healthier option, add 1 tablespoon olive oil, or use butter if you prefer.

  4. 4

    In a baking dish, layer the toasted bread first, then the rice, then the beef on top.

  5. 5

    To make the sauce, finely chop the onion and sauté until soft. Add the tomato juice, tomato paste, or a mix of both, and cook until done. Season with salt, spices, and chili to taste.

  6. 6

    Mince the garlic and sauté in butter or oil, then add the vinegar.

  7. 7

    Pour the sauce and the garlic-vinegar mixture over the rice and beef layers.
