Japanese plum syrup makes a great drink for summer!! Ume (plums) is known to be good for health and beauty in Japan. When you feel exhausted from summer heat, try this! My daughters also enjoy over shaved ice!!

Ingredients

approx.0.8L
  1. 1 kgJapanese plum
  2. 1 kgsugar (any sugar such as rock sugar or crystal sugar.)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

If you rinse plum, remove any water.

  2. 2

    Remove stem end. (Use toothpicks.)

  3. 3

Add plums and sugar alternately in a sanitized jar.

  4. 4

Store the jar in a cool & dark place for 1 month. Shake the jar occasionally. (Don’t open the lid!)

  5. 5

After a month, it’s time to open the lid. Take plums out. Heat syrup in a pan and bring to boiling.

  6. 6

Once boiled, add the syrup into a sanitized jar and store in fridge. (Nice golden color!)

  7. 7

Enjoy with cold water or sparkling water (syrup : water = 1 : 5). Over shaved ice is also a good idea. (You don’t have to dilute!)

Hello, Makiko! Thanks very much for the detailed recipe. What can we do with the plums after taking out?
