Ingredients

  1. 7-8rahu pieces or any other river fish of your choice
  2. 14-15small tender vindi or okra whole
  3. 1big onion paste
  4. 1/2 tspgarlic paste
  5. 1 tspturmeric powder
  6. 1/2 tsproasted cumin powder
  7. 1/2 tspred chilli powder
  8. 1/2 tsproasted coriander powder
  9. 1 tbspmustard oil to saute the fish
  10. 1 tbspmore mustard oil to cook the gravy
  11. 1-2fresh green chilli slitted
  12. 4-5dry fenugreek seeds
  13. Few coriander leaves chopped
  14. to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Clean and wash fish pieces. Marinade with some salt and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder for 10 minutes.

    Heat a non stick pan and add 1 tbsp of mustard oil and shallow fry fish pieces on both sides lightly.

  3. 3

    Keep aside the fish pieces.

  4. 4

    Now in the same pan add 1 tbsp more oil.

  5. 5

    Splatter some methi(fenugreek) seeds.

  6. 6

    Add onion paste and stir with a spatula.

  7. 7

    Fry till light golden brown.

  8. 8

    Add garlic paste and saute for few seconds.

  9. 9

    Now add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder. Mix well by adding little water.

  10. 10

    Cook until oil separates from the spices.

  11. 11

    Add salt and 3-4 tbsp of more water.

  12. 12

    Add fried fish pieces and vindi or okra. Mix gently to coat the masala with the fish and okra.

  13. 13

    Cover and cook in low flame till okra becomes half done.

  14. 14

    Remove the lid,stir gently. Add slitted green chillies.

  15. 15

    Add water if necessary to adjust gravy consistency.

  16. 16

    Check seasoning,add chopped coriander leaves and remove from heat.

  17. 17

    Serve with some steamed rice.
