2 cupssugar
2 cupsflour
1/2 cupshortening
1 stickbutter
1 cupwater
1/2cup. buttermilk
2eggs beaten
1 tspbaking soda
1 tspvanilla
For icing
2 cupssugar
1/4 cuplight corn syrup
1/2 cupmilk
1/2 cupshortening
2 ozunsweetened chocolate squares
1/4 tspsalt
1 tspvanilla

Sift sugar and flour together. In a saucepan bring shortening, butter, water, and cocoa to a boil. Pour over flour mixture. While still hot, add buttermilk, beaten eggs, soda, and vanilla.

Bake at 400°F in greased and floured shallow pan for 15 to 20 minutes.

Icing: Stir over low heat until chocolate and shortening melt. Bring to a full rolling boil stirring constantly. Boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and beat until lukewarm. Stir in vanilla. Continue until smooth and pour over cake.
