Ingredients

  1. 1 cupWater
  2. 1/2 cupButter
  3. 1/4 cupShorting
  4. 1/4 cupCocoa
  5. 2 cupsAll-Purpose Flour
  6. 2 cupsGranulated Sugar
  7. 1 tspBaking Soda
  8. 1 tspCinnamon
  9. 1/2 tspSalt
  10. 1/2 cupButtermilk
  11. 2Large Eggs
  12. 1 tspVanilla
  13. frosting
  14. 1/2 cupButter
  15. 6 TbspButtermilk
  16. 1/4Cocoa
  17. 1 (16 oz)Confectioners Sugar
  18. 1 tspVanilla

Cooking Instructions

    In a sauce pan combine water, butter, shortening, and 1/4 cp cocoa powder. Heat on medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat.

    Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

    Add cocoa mixture. Stir until smooth.

    Add 1/2 buttermilk, eggs, and 1 tsp vanilla, mix well.

    Pour into buttered 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 pan. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes.

    While cake is baking, combine 1/2 cup butter, 6 Tbsp buttermilk and 1/4 Cocoa. Cook and stir until boiling. Remove from heat.

    Gradually add confectionery sugar and vanilla. Stir until smooth. Immediately pour onto warm cake. Let cool.
