Caramelized Onion Dip
This is an easy way to get great flavors.
Steps
- 1
Preheat oven to 400.
- 2
Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 3
Slice ends off onion and cut in half. Remove peel and slice into very thin half moons. Place onto baking sheet in a mound.
- 4
Add unpeeled garlic cloves to mound.
- 5
Pour liquids over mound. With your hands toss so everything is coated. Add a good sprinkling of salt (about a tablespoon or so). Sprinkle with freshly ground pepper.
- 6
Spread the onions out just a bit, keeping the mound mostly intact. Bake for about an hour, stirring around every 15 minutes or so. They will brown unevenly, which is fine. Take the garlic out after an hour. The onions may need another 15-20 minutes.
- 7
Finely chop the onions and squeeze out the garlic and smooth that to a paste. Add to your bowl.
- 8
Add the yogurt, sour cream and lemon juice to the onion-garlic mixture and combine. Add salt and pepper to taste. Let sit in refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
