Carrot Spurs

Been playing with this old book of Japanese garnishes (mukimono?) I got a long time ago. Some of them are pretty lame, but there are a few that turn out super cool.
Carrot Spurs
Been playing with this old book of Japanese garnishes (mukimono?) I got a long time ago. Some of them are pretty lame, but there are a few that turn out super cool.
Steps
- 1
Peel a carrot and slice into 3-inch lengths.
- 2
Boil carrots for about 4 minutes.
- 3
Now for the tricky part. You wanna slice about 1/8 inch deep into the surface of the carrot along it's length, but do so at a slight angle. Then, moving over a little more than an 1/8 of an inch, do the same thing, but angle the slice towards the previous slice. This should allow you to remove a tiny wedge from the length of the carrot.
- 4
Repeat around the circumference of your carrot column until you meet back at the other side.
- 5
Now slice perpendicular along the column to yield these little carrot stars.
- 6
Not sure what you wanna do with them, haha. Maybe liven up a salad or get the kids excited to eat their veggies or something. Make sure you send me some pics whatever you do.
