Shelpek (flat bread)
Very tasty goes well with soup or sauce
Steps
- 1
Add the salt and sugar to the milk and stir,in a bowl sift the flour and add the baking powder and stir.
- 2
Add the milk to the flour and make a dough (it should be dense for the shelpek to come out rich). When it is well combined cover it in the bowl and allow to rest for 30mins.
- 3
After 30mins form the dough into a log and divide into 6 or 7 balls keep them covered in order not to dry up.
- 4
Sprinkle some flour onto the work surface and stretch each piece to flatten it with your hand then roll out into a circle about1millimeter thick do the same with the remaining balls keeping the circles covered with cling film.
- 5
Heat some oil in a pan (about 5 to 6 cm deep) till it starts to fume then start frying the shelpeks one by one on each side rotating with two forks.do not brown them much because they will get hard when they cool down. Serve with jam, sauce or soup.
