Ingredients

35 minutes
5 persons
  1. 1/4 cupsoaked chana dal/ bengal gram
  2. 1/4 cupsoaked soya granules
  3. 1 cupchopped lotus stems
  4. 1 tbsppudina (mint) powder with some white sesame seeds
  5. 3 tbspfinely chopped ginger and green chillies
  6. 1/2 tbspgarlic paste
  7. 1/2 tspamchur powder / dry mango powder
  8. 2 tbspfinely chopped coriander leaves
  9. as requiredFew sticks of lotus stems about 3 inches long
  10. to tasteSalt
  11. as requiredOil for deep frying
  12. as requiredSome onion rings for garnishing
  13. as requiredSome fresh mint leaves for garnishing
  14. 1Lemon slice for serving
  15. as neededTomato sauce for serving
  16. as neededGreen chutney for serving
  17. as neededSome water

Steps

  1. 1

    Put all the ingredients at one place like soya granules, finely chopped ginger and green chillies, coriander leaves, lotus stem sticks, pudina powder with sesame seeds, garlic paste, salt and amchur powder

    These are chopped lotus stems, the lotus stems should be washed very nicely as these are full of mud, then peel it nicely and then finally cut them, in a pan cover and cook these for 5 minutes, until becomes little soft

    In the same way cook soaked chana dal and soya granules in a pan, by sprinkling some water, until becomes little soft, when these cools down then put them in a mixer grinder along with chopped lotus stems, chopped ginger and green chillies

    Grind them nicely, at first they will be little crumbly

    To make it smooth paste add little water and grind it again

    Take out the smooth mixture in a bowl

    Add pudina powder with sesame seeds, garlic paste, salt, amchur powder and chopped coriander leaves

    Mix well with your hands, it will become like a dough, with the help of little water, make medium sized ball from the mixture

    Flatten the ball in your palm

    Place the lotus stem stick in the center

    Seal it nicely from all the sides, thus giving it the shape of a chop

    Heat oil for deep frying, first on high flame, then make the flame medium

    Slowly slide the ready chop in the hot oil

    Fry it on medium heat, by turning it at regular intervals, until becomes golden brown

    When it is fried nicely then take it out by removing excess oil

    And take it out in an absorbant paper, so that it soaks the extra oil

    In the same way make all the chops

    Arrange them in a serving platter, garnish with fresh mint leaves

    Garnish with onion rings also

    Serve with a lemon slice, tomato sauce and green chutney
