Wash and soak the chana dal for half an hour. Wash the rice thoroughly. Once done take a pressure cooker and add the water in it and put it on the flame and let the water heat. One point to note that the quantity of water depends on the consistency of khichdi that you like. If you like flowy consistency then add more than double of the quantity of dal and rice but if you want thick consistency then double quantity of water is sufficient.

Wait till the water comes to a boil and then add the rice and chana dal in it. Stir it for a few seconds and let the water comes to a boil again then add the salt, turmeric and pepper powder to it. Add the ghee into boiling water and close the lid of the pressure cooker.

Keep the flame on medium and cook for about 10-15 minutes or till two whistles. Then put off the flame. Don't let off the steam too quickly. Let the khichdi cook in it's own steam for a few minutes.

Enjoy this delicious khichdi with raita, curd or achar. It will add a healthy note to your daily nourishment requirements and satisfy your taste buds as well.
