Ingredients

  1. 3 cupsmedium semolina (about 480 grams)
  2. 1 cupmelted butter (about 225 grams)
  3. Pinchsalt
  4. 1 cupwarm water mixed with about 1/4 cup orange blossom water (about 240 ml water + 60 ml orange blossom water)
  5. Date paste
  6. 1/4 teaspoonground cloves
  7. 1/4 teaspoonground cinnamon
  8. Honey
  9. Sesame seeds for garnish

Steps

  1. 1

    Place the semolina and salt in a large bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix in the melted butter until every grain of semolina is coated.

  3. 3

    Gradually add the water mixed with orange blossom water and knead until a dough forms. Let it rest.

  4. 4

    Knead the date paste with the ground cloves and cinnamon.

  5. 5

    Shape the dough into a log, then make a groove down the center.

  6. 6

    Shape the date paste into a log and place it in the groove. Seal the dough around the filling.

  7. 7

    Cut the log into diamond-shaped pieces and let them rest.

  8. 8

    Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the makroud pieces, turning until golden brown on all sides.

  9. 9

    Dip each piece in honey while still warm.

  10. 10

    Garnish with sesame seeds and serve.
