Puttu kadala breakfast have grown up eating this at home .. This is a Kerala specialty cuisine this is famous breakfast in every house in Kerala . This is healthy as it’s steamed and they serve it with lot of side dishes like Chickpea Curry ,Banana and sugar ,Papadam,Green gram curry and also non veg. It’s filling and very tasty . For making Puttu olden days they use Coconut shell now a days we get a Puttu vessel in every shop its a must try . 😊

Ingredients

  • 1 CupPuttu Powder / Rice powder
  • 1 CupGrated Coconut
  • Water as required
  • to tasteSalt
  • Chickpea Curry
  • 2 CupBoiled Chickpea
  • 1Onion
  • 1Tomato
  • 1&1/2Tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1 TspCoriander Powder
  • 1/2 TspTurmeric
  • to tasteSalt
  • 1/2 CupGrated coconut
  • 1tspGinger Garlic Paste
  • Oil
  • 1 tspMustard seed
  • leafCurry
  • 2dry red chilli
  • 3small onion / Shallots

Steps

  1. 1

    In a bowl add the Puttu powder,salt and add water little by little it just have to be wet but not too much and close and keep for while.

  2. 2

    Heat the Puttu vessel add one layer coconut grated and then add puttu powder half and repeat till its full.Close the lid and steam for 10 min and remove.

  3. 3

    Chickpea Curry : Add chickpea,onion,tomato,turmeric,salt,chilli powder,coriander powder and ginger garlic paste and put whistle till it’s cooked.

  4. 4

    Mean while in a pan add some oil add coconut fry for while then add chilli powder,coriander powder salt small onions curry leaves and fry for while turning brown just remove from pan.

  5. 5

    Make a fine paste of coconut and add it to the chickpea and cook till raw smell goes add water for consistency and cook till done.

  6. 6

    In a pan add oil splitter mustard seed,curry leaves,red chilli add it to the curry and close for while.
