Ingredients

4-5 servings
  1. 1 cuptoor dal
  2. 1medium sized onion chopped
  3. 1tomato chopped
  4. 1-2drumstick chopped
  5. 1-2small sized carrot chopped in cube size
  6. 2-3parwal chopped in cube size
  7. 3-4kundru chopped
  8. 1 tspturmeric
  9. 1/2 tspcumin powder
  10. 1 tspcoriander powder
  11. 1 tspred chilli powder
  12. 1/2 tspgaram masala
  13. 1-2 tspsambar powder
  14. 1-2 tspsugar (substitute for jagerry)
  15. 1 tspmustard seeds
  16. 1lemon juice (substitute for tamerind)
  17. 1/2 tspfenugreek or methi
  18. 1dry red chilli
  19. to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Firstly, boil the dal with 1 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp salt. Once dal is boiled, whisk it lightly and keep aside.

    Heat the pan, add 1 tsp oil. Add mastard, fenugreek, red chilli and saute for few seconds. Add chopped onion and saute until light golden. Add tomato, carrot, parwal, kundru, drumstick and saute for few srconds. Add salt, turmeric, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and saute for few minutes until all veggies are nicely covered with masala.

    Now add dal, mix nicely. Add water if required. Add sambar masala, sugar, lemon juice. Cover with lid and keep on low to medium flame for 3-4 minutes to cook.
