Today's preparation is a combination of two lentils, black gram split and Bengal gram split (urad chilka dal and chana dal). This combination is very usually consumed in our daily lives. As we all know that pulses offer a variety of health benefits, such as improving digestion, aiding weight management and reducing the risk of several diseases. These deals are packed with protein, and also good quality fibers.
So this was all about nutritional advantages! And when it comes to taste, this combination of dal and rice is one of my favorites! #dal

Ingredients

30 mins
6-8 servings
  • 200 gblack gram split/ urad chilka
  • 150 gbengal gram split/ chana dal (soaked for half an hour)
  • as neededOil for tempering
  • 3 tspcumin seeds
  • 1 tbspginger garlic paste
  • 3-4whole red chillies
  • 1medium onion chopped
  • 6-7tomatoes chopped
  • 1 tspasafoetida/ heeng powder
  • 3 cupswater
  • to tasteSalt
  • 3 tspred chilli powder
  • 1 tbspcoriander powder
  • 1 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tbspgaram masala

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash both the lentils and soak for half an hour. Now wash them again and pressure cook for 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Side by side we will prepare the tempering too. Take oil in a pan, add the cumin seeds, let them crackle. Now add the whole red chillies, chopped onions and ginger garlic paste. Saute it for sometime.

  3. 3

    Once the onions turns slight golden pink. Add salt, turmeric, chilli powder, heeng and coriander powder. Give them all a nice mix.

    Now add the chopped tomatoes. And let it cook till the oil separates.

  5. 5

    Add this prepared tempering to the cooked dal and add the garam masala now. Serve hot with boiled rice. Enjoy!
