Vietnamese lemongrass beef

My husband and I visited Vietnam on our honeymoon last year. We spent 5 weeks travelling and eating our way down the country. One night when we were in Hoi An, we had dinner at a small restaurant. The food was wonderful so we asked the owner if we could come back tomorrow and learn to cook it. He said yes and this recipe is one of the things we learnt. It’s a simple dish, deliciously fresh and tastes absolutely incredible. #mycookbook #Vietnamese

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Slice the beef, against the grain. Finely chop the garlic, lemongrass and shallot. Add 1/3 of each to the beef, plus the soy, fish sauce, oil, siracha, five spice, pepper and sugar and marinate for 2 hours.
- 2
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add the remaining lemongrass and fry for 20 secs. Then add the shallot and fry for 20 secs. Then add the garlic and fry for 20 secs.
- 3
Add the marinated beef and fry for a minute on each side. Then remove from the heat, cover and leave to rest for a few minutes. Then serve with rice and greens (I stir fried cabbage and tenderstem broccoli with a little garlic, lemongrass, shallot and soy)

Add tons of vegetables and pour the Vietnamese sour spicy sauce over the rice noodle, so good..You also can marinate the chicken ahead, keep it in the freezer until you need it. Just thaw overnight in the fridge and ready to be cooked the next day. Good to serve with warm rice too.Recipe is taken from:https://www.recipetineats.com/vietnamese-chicken-noodle-bowl/#wprm-recipe-container-22009#MyCookBook purple_acied -

Vietnamese Chicken Lemongrass | Gà Kho Sả Ớt Vietnamese Chicken Lemongrass | Gà Kho Sả Ớt
Chicken lemongrass is a staple Vietnamese home comfort food that I’m sure most of us couple probably eat everyday! I used free run chicken to keep it authentic and for me to savor the nostalgic flavor of the time mom makes it in Vietnam. Of course you can use any chicken to your liking. The lemongrass aroma as well as the deep savory flavor of this dish will make you eat more rice than you normally would! It’s addicting! We do have 2 version of this dish, one is braised (kho) and one is Stir-fry (xào). Only difference is the braised version is more saucy and the other is dry. This is the saucy version. If you want it to be more of a dry stir fry version, just add less liquid. I like the sauce version because I can use the sauce for dipping veggies! Quoc Nguyen | Chef Q -
Vietnamese Beef and Lemongrass Skewers Vietnamese Beef and Lemongrass Skewers
One of my favorite cooks, Jackie M, posted this recipe recently on Google+.And as expected, this turned out to be an easy dish but with incredible taste. You don't have to use Lemongrass skewers, but it's a nice touch (and less cleaning afterwards),PS: Lemongrass, Hoisin and Sriracha are essential to this dish though!! PaulN -

A clam specialty dish from the mid region of Vietnam; known for their spicy and aromatic dishes. This dish can be eaten with rice, rice noodles, rice crackers, or just by itself! The clams I’m using are the pre-cooked and meat only baby clams. You can use any clams meat, just make sure it’s minced Coarsely if they’re big clams. Happy cooking! Quoc Nguyen | Chef Q -

Steak with tarragon mushroom sauce Steak with tarragon mushroom sauce
As a kid learning to cook, one of my favourite things to do was fry a steak and then douse it in partially reconstituted Campbell's cream of mushroom soup. To my thirteen-year-old self, it was the height of gastronomy, and I always felt like such a pro afterward. This dish is a play on that childhood 'recipe.' Robert Gonzal -

Vietnamese Chicken Noodle (Dry) Miến Gà Trộn Vietnamese Chicken Noodle (Dry) Miến Gà Trộn
This Vietnamese Chicken Noodle uses mung bean noodles (glass noodles) and is a cousin of the Cambodian dish pehnomvang Noodles. You can eat it as a soup base using the broth or in this case, make a soy base sauce for the dry version (soup on the side). It’s easy and straight forward. Boil the chicken, make the sauce, and boil the noodles. (Besides some pre-made toppings like fried shallots) Quoc Nguyen | Chef Q -

Dear wifey came home sick today with something that has been going around. I made her a cup of this tea and sent her to bed. Lemongrass is good for all sorts of ailments including: indigestion, anxiety, skin disorders, coughs, colds, fevers, and nasal congestion. In fact, in the Caribbean, they call it "Fever Grass".
