Cooking Instructions

Firstly, coarsely grind green peas and keep them aside.

Now heat oil in a pan and start roasting coarsely grind green peas, add a bit of salt to it to fasten the cooking process. This will take around 10-15 minutes depending upon the quantity of peas. Once the peas are done a nice aroma will be observed. Keep the roasted peas aside for further use.

Now heat oil in a kadhai and half fry vertically chopped potatoes till they turn a bit golden. Keep these potatoes aside.

Now in a mixer jar add the following - whole coriander seeds, garlic cloves, green chilies, ginger, and turmeric powder. First, grind without adding water. Now add some water and grind again.

Now add fresh coriander leaves in the same jar and grind again to make a beautiful green chutney.

Now heat oil in a kadhai and add cumin seeds, let it splutter, then add asafoetida, now add finely chopped tomatoes and mix well. Cook till tomatoes are soft and mushy.

Now add the green chutney prepared in the mixer jar mix well and add a bit of water in the same jar rinse it properly and add it

Now cook the masala till it starts leaving oil on the sides

Once the masala is cooked properly add roasted peas and fried potatoes. Mix well and add salt. Adjust water as needed.

Add some whole peas from above. Cover and cook for 10-15 mins

Matar Nimona is ready to be served with steamed rice or chapatis.
