Ingredients

30 minutes
4-6 persons
  1. For fish marination
  2. 1 kgfish (cut into roundels)
  3. to tasteSalt
  4. 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  5. 3/4 tsp red chilli powder
  6. 1 tbspmustard oil
  7. For masala paste
  8. 1small onion
  9. 1medium size tomato
  10. 2Cardamoms
  11. 2cloves
  12. as requiredSmall cinnamon stick
  13. as required Few black peppercorns
  14. 1dry red chilli
  15. as neededWater
  16. For gravy
  17. 40 mloil
  18. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  19. 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  20. 1/4 tsp fennel seeds
  21. 1finely chopped onion
  22. 1 tbspginger garlic paste
  23. as per required Prepared masala paste
  24. as neededSalt
  25. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  26. 1/2 tspred chilli powder (adjust as needed)
  27. 1 tspfish masala
  28. 1/2 tspgaram masala
  29. as requiredHot water as per your preferred consistency
  30. 1small boiled potato (mashed)
  31. as per required Fried Fish(Deep fried in mustard oil, strained and kept aside)
  32. 1-2fresh green chillies (slit)
  33. as per need Finely chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    In a mixing bowl, put cleaned fish. Add the above-mentioned ingredients for marination.
    Coat the fish pieces well, cover and keep aside at least for 30 minutes.

    Next as per the above-mentioned ingredients make the masala paste.

    Next heat mustard oil. Fry the fish pieces, strain the oil and keep them aside.

    Next heat a kadhai with mustard oil. Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fennel seeds. Add chopped onion. Saute till brownish.
    Next add ginger garlic paste. Saute for some time.

    Next add the prepared masala paste. Mix. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder. Mix and cook till masala leaves oil

    Next add hot water to make the gravy. Put fish masala. Let it come to boil.
    Then mash a small boiled potato very nicely and add it into the gravy. This makes the gravy thick.

    Continue cooking in medium heat.
    As it comes to boil, add garam masala. As it comes to boil, add the fried fish pieces. Give a gentle mix.
    As fish gets nicely combined with the gravy, add finely chopped coriander leaves and slit green chillies.

    Do not cook anymore. Switch the flame off.
    Serve immediately..
    Enjoy with hot steamy rice and salad..
