Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 2 tbsplemon juice
  2. 1 tbspfirm packed dark brown sugar
  3. 1 clovegarlic, crushed
  4. 1 tspblack pepper
  5. 2 tbspvegetable oil, divided
  6. 2 lbtop sirloin steak, sliced 1/4 in. thick
  7. 1 mediumonion, thin sliced
  8. 2 mediumheads broccoli
  9. 2 tspgrated fresh gingerroot
  10. 1/2 cupwater
  11. 1/3 cupsoy sauce
  12. 1 1/4 tbspcorn starch
  13. 6 ozsliced mushrooms

Cooking Instructions

    in a small bowl, combine soy sauce, lemon juice, corn starch, brown sugar, garlic and pepper. mix well. set aside

  2. 2

    heat 1tbl. vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. add beef and cook until almost done. about 2 minutes. transfer beef to a bowl and cover to keep warm. set aside

    cut broccoli into florets. heat remaining oil in same skillet. add onions and saute for about 5 minutes. add broccoli and mushrooms and water. bring to boil, cover and reduce heat to a simmer for 3 minutes.

    return beef to skillet. add soy sauce mixture and ginger. bring to a boil. stir constantly and cook until sauce thickens. about 2 min.

    serve hot over rice. enjoy!

    variation: instead of the soy sauce in step one.. add 1/2 cup black bean sauce. and serve over egg noodles and top with toasted sesame seeds.

waaaaay too much soy sauce. this was So salty my kids could hardly eat it. maybe 1/3 cup soy sauce would be enough. it would Also make the sauce a bit thicker.
